We are going to France

Bonjour!

Alphonse de Lamartine once said: ,,Le monde est un livre dont chaque pas nous ouvre une page“.  Which translates as: The world is a book – with each step we open a page.”  Right now we are opening a new page full of  new experiences and  new people. The story is starting in France this time! The story will begin on the 30th September when we are going to arrive to Orléans.

Orléans

The Loire River divides Orléans into two unequal parts. To the south lies the smaller Saint-Marceau quarter, a market-gardening centre. The main part of the city stands on the northern bank of the Loire. The old quarter, surrounded by pleasant wide boulevards and quays along the river, was largely destroyed during World War II. It has been rebuilt in keeping with the style of the old 18th-century town, with consideration for the imperatives of modern traffic. Beyond the boulevards new districts were created along the main roads leading out of the city.

Joan of Arc
Orleans was where Joan of Arc showed her "sign" in May of 1429 by raising the English siege and liberating the town in only three days of fighting. After her great victory at Orleans Joan became forever known as the "Maid of Orleans" and is still loved and remembered by the town of Orleans today. Every year on May 8th, the anniversary of Joan's liberation of the city, they hold a festival to celebrate Joan's victory.

"I have been commanded to do two things on the part of the King of Heaven: one, to raise the siege of Orleans; the other, to conduct the King to Reims for his sacrament and his coronation." Joan describing her mission.

During our visit in Orléans there will be held many presentations and activities to keep us busy. People from France prepared various workshops and I am looking forward to meet a new people.
